Real? Liverpool?…Leverkusen president reveals Alonso’s destination

Leverkusen chairman Fernando Caro has spoken out about the rumors surrounding Xabi Alonso.

Britain’s ‘Talk Sport’ reported on Nov. 19 (KST), “Caro spoke about Alonso’s buyout clause at ‘Soccer Rex’ in Miami. He said, “There is no buyout clause that is triggered if Alonso joins Real Madrid or Liverpool. We have a very good relationship with Alonso and he knows that we are a serious club.”

Alonso came out of retirement in 2017 and immediately embarked on a coaching career. Starting out as a youth coach at his “home team” Real, Alonso went on to coach Real Juvenil A and Real Sociedad B before taking over as head coach of Leverkusen in 2022.

Upon arriving in Germany, Alonso began to show a remarkable leadership ability that belied his lack of experience in the senior ranks. Taking over midway through the 2022-23 season, Alonso implemented his signature tactics and led the team to a resurgence. Under Alonso’s guidance, Leverkusen finished the season in sixth place in the league and in the UEFA Europa League (UEL), qualifying for the last four.

This season, they’ve continued their good form. Currently, Leverkusen is undefeated in the league and leading the standings, beating powerhouses like Bayern Munich and Dortmund. This has led to speculation that they might even win the league title. 보스토토 도메인

At the same time, rumors have been swirling about Carlo Ancelotti’s successor at Real. According to Spain’s Sport, “Ancelotti could leave for the Brazilian national team. The next most likely candidate is Alonso. He is very popular among Real fans as well as Real president Florentino Perez.”

Alonso has been linked to a number of ‘big clubs’. Finally, Leverkusen’s president spoke out. “We will not force him to stay if he doesn’t want to stay at the club. We want him to be really happy with us and to like it, that’s our goal,” he explained.

“But we hope we don’t have to do this because he will be happy to stay at Leverkusen,” he added.
